London Scottish FC's end of season Nacsport Testimonial

With only the knockout matches remaining in the 2016-17 Greene King IPA Championship, the season for London Scottish FC has now finished. As you may have read last year, the team decided to bulk out their analysis department and team review processes by switching over to more Nacsport licences instead of the SportsCode software they previously used. As part of a 3-year agreement, the club acquired a Nacsport Elite licence along with 3 Nacsport Scout Plus Unlimited licences and 4 Nacsport Viewer licences.

You can read more about London Scottish choosing Nacsport and it's use by the whole team at the start of the season in this previous blog (click the picture).

Jonathan Bray has been heading up the analysis department at London Scottish and has kindly provided this testimonial to give some insight into how the club have found using Nacsport this season, with attention paid to how it has impacted the player's own reviews and analysis workflows.

Now we have finished our season and are able to review what we did, I can safely say one of the best decisions I made for the club was to move away from SportsCode and introduce the Nacsport software through AnalysisPro. The amount we have been able to do with the software has been very impressive. Generating the data for in depth statistical reviews of teams and individuals has been important, however it is the video features that have been of most benefit. The ability to build presentations, add drawings and easily edit the clips has allowed us to deliver more engaging, accurate and concise team meetings which has had a direct impact upon performance.

Furthermore, the players have become increasingly receptive to the software. Initially, some had doubts having never used it before, but now they are comfortable not only reviewing their own performances but also conducting opposition previews to present to the team!

During matches we have been able to use the live capturing, registering, reviewing and dashboard features to good effect. This has been very beneficial as it streamlined our processes and provided a few key stats for the coaches during the game.

Finally, like with any new software, there are occasional teething problems. However, with the support of Josh, Alberto and Icenk, we have been able to overcome any issue. The remote support provided was arranged at short notice, at a time that suited my workload and was incredibly beneficial. I would definitely recommend Nacsport to any club or organisation seeking affordable video analysis software.

We would like to thank Jonathan for providing this testimonial and helping his team to get the most out of Nacsport this season. Sadly, Jonathan is moving away from the world of Performance Analysis at the end of this season, so we wish him the best of luck in his new ventures!

Gloucester Rugby move from SportsCode to Nacsport

We are delighted to announce that before the start of the 2017/18 Aviva Premiership Rugby season, Gloucester Rugby will now be using the Nacsport video analysis software instead of the SportsCode software they have used previously. Gloucester Rugby have entered into a 5-year agreement to use a combination of 9 Nacsport Elite and 10 Nacsport Viewer licences among their analysts, coaches and players at both 1st team and Academy levels.

A few weeks ago, Josh caught up with Gloucester Rugby’s coaching staff to go through some of the key workflows they will be using with their new Nacsport software. The coaches reflected on how their reviews and presentations back to players were going to become more easy and efficient, especially thanks to the Nacsport Presentation Window and integrated KlipDraw tools that Gloucester Rugby will also use. After this, Josh interviewed Darren Lewis to find out more about the video analysis processes used at the club, moving over to Nacsport and what this means for the “Cherry & Whites”:

Josh Bryan training the Gloucester coaches on Nacsport

Hi Darren, please could you introduce yourself and give us an overview of your role at the club?

Hello, my name is Darren Lewis and my role is Head of Analysis Department at Gloucester Rugby. The department consists of myself, Tom Reynolds who works supporting the first team players and coaches and James Macfarlane who is the Academy analyst and works with the Academy coaches, but also helps with some elements of the first team’s analysis provision. Between the three of us we facilitate the analysis resources for the players and coaches at the club.

The working week is usually pretty full-on with reviews of our last match, previews of our next opposition and training sessions with micro reviews after each session for different player groups. We film all our training sessions with at least two cameras and when the weather is good, we use a DJI Phantom Drone which gives us a great perspective of our sessions.

We help the coaches prepare for our games by creating content of our opposition’s last performances and analysing certain things to make sure the coaches have a full overview of the team we’re about to play, so they can develop the approach for that specific week as well as helping to review our own game tapes. Lots of our content starts as big files of video, which is then edited down into the most important things our players need to know, to give them the confidence to take the field as prepared as possible. We also analyse all of our training sessions. It’s the time on the training field that is so important, so what we provide for the players and coaches in terms of our training resources is crucial, it’s a huge learning environment so it’s important we take as much out of what we practice as possible. This manifests itself into micro meetings after sessions and content being sent out to players remotely, so there’s a fair bit of work that goes into analysing training before 3pm kick offs on a Saturday.

Our game day work is all about trying to make a difference in game. That’s mainly for the coaches really, but I do provide little snippets of things I’m seeing as the game is going on along with Tom who is registering the game live so that at the final whistle, our coaches can take away four views of the game with analysis they can begin to create their debriefs with. Several of our coaches create their own clips as well, but they have the instances that we’ve created during the game to work with and save them time too. Post game, myself and Tom will register individual involvements for each player, tackles, carries, kicks etc., and this data along with the data from a team perspective makes its way into a post-match report, which is used by the coaches to help their review process and the conditioning staff to understand what the players went through physically in the game.

Then on Monday, the review process begins and the preparation for the following weeks game will follow on from that. I work a week in advance so that the coaches have everything for the team we’re playing the following week in plenty of time. We then have a meeting to discuss what each person has seen and come up with a rough idea of the approach tactically and anything I’ve seen that the opposition may throw at us we need to be aware of. This will then get firmed up before being delivered to the team and content of training sessions devised.

So much of what gets delivered to players is based from learnings taken from video. Modern sport relies hugely on vision to allow for medics to see injury mechanism, S&C to look at motion around the field and of course tactics to be devised on the opposition and individual reflection to take place from the players. There are lots of moving parts to the analysis department’s working week which mean you need to be on top of everything, because the days go pretty quickly week to week in season. I like to get into the office early so that I can get things done before players start to come in and ask for things and meetings begin etc. because once that happens, getting anything done is tough as there is so much going on. Our office doubles up as the club’s analysis room with a suite of machines for players to do their own analysis. It’s great being in with the players because it means you get to have conversations with them about things they were thinking during games, things I’ve seen they may need to be aware of and of course … help them use the computers. Overall though, our playing group are excellent at navigating the video and looking for things.

Nacsport Elite and Nacsport Viewer machines at Gloucester Rugby

Up until recently, all your video analysis work has been carried out in SportsCode but now you are moving over to Nacsport. Were there some key factors which made you want to investigate Nacsport further in the first place?

Correct, I have been a SportsCode and Mac user in the roles I have had since I completed my degree, which was a long time ago now, initially as Bureau Co-Ordinator for the CPA at Cardiff Met working with the WRU (one you’ll have good memories of having worked together on that project), four years as Head of Analysis at Bath Rugby club and in my current role with Gloucester. Well, I’ve actually had half an eye on Nacsport since my time at Bath. I had a demo of the program nearly five years ago now and at the time, I probably didn’t give it the attention it deserved. The reason for that is that to be honest, I didn’t feel it was where it needed to be for it to be a genuine option to consider, and at the time Bath were heavily invested in SportsTec products, so it wasn’t really a good fit to do anything back then.

Fast forward five years and the product has transformed, combined with Gloucester’s current situation it means that the time is perfect to make the move. The development and transformation of Nacsport is unbelievably comprehensive and across all parts of the product (as I knew it from the time I had the demo at least). One of the main considerations with what is really and truly a huge change, is that the coaches would be comfortable using the software. The coaches at the club are very good in terms of being able to use what we currently have to prepare for meetings (with a little help here and there of course) and each have slightly different workflow’s but essentially, they have used SportsCode for a long time, so making sure they can continue to be self-sufficient in the way they prepare using Nacsport was a fundamental factor to making the change. Given some of their reactions to the training session you recently delivered, I think it’s safe to say that will not be an issue and if anything will make their lives significantly easier and certainly enhance what they can do with their analysis when they get stuck into it.

From my point of view, being able to continue to do some things like use four stacked angles, manage clips for presentations and obviously register live and post event are all key workflows that I’ve used and developed during my career. That’s not to say what I’ve done is the best way to do things and no doubt these workflows will evolve given the possibilities with Nacsport, but it was a reassuring factor in making the decision to change. I’d also be lying if I said the cost of the entire solution wasn’t a factor. It is. Every company has budgets to work to and the fact we are getting way more bang for our buck by making this transition was something that any business would smile at. The cost of hardware has been halved and we’re now working with HP Omens that have the same power as a MacBook Pro for literally half the cost … my Director of Rugby and finance department are very pleased.

Gloucester Rugby coaches using Nacsport and KlipDrawJames Macfarlane working with Nacsport in the Gloucester Academy

With Nacsport already being used in your Academy and after trialling the software yourself, how happy are you that Nacsport will meet all your video analysis needs? Is Nacsport enabling you to do everything you did before?

James has done a fantastic job at integrating Nacsport into the Academy and we have all worked closely together to ensure that what he and the Academy coaches deliver to our younger players is directly in line with what is delivered at senior level. That’s been another benefit of using Nacsport, as it’s ability to import packages from SportsCode and deal with XML and data inputs has meant the link has remained seamless between senior and academy rugby at the club, even though they’re using Nacsport and we’ve been using SportsCode. But, the very short answer to your question about how happy I am that Nacsport will deliver everything we need it to is…YES!

We’ve been working on this project for a long time now as there are a lot of factors to consider in making the move to Nacsport, but the more and more I sit on the program, watch the reactions of coaches and players when they see some of the features and how easy it is to use just gives me the absolute confidence that we are going to be able to completely surpass everything I’ve done up until this point (and I’ve still not completely mastered the program). The challenge for myself, Tom and James is to develop the workflows for our coaches and what they want to achieve as well, which can significantly enhance what they do to best prepare the team. We’ll quickly figure out what is going to make the biggest difference and how we can use the vast and varying number of tools we’ll have with Nacsport to their absolute potential.

It’s going to take some thinking because in order to maximise the program, I’m going to need to re-think everything we do. From the way we name our files (so we can utilise the search bar and search tool) to the types of data we collect (so our dashboards will be able to paint the best pictures possible) to how our in game analysis and live training analysis can move forward (how our subs and coaches bench can make an impact by utilising play by play) and that’s just to name a few things. It’s going to be a challenge as there are so many components of what the department does to rethink and develop, but one we can’t wait to get into.

James Macfarlane, Darren Lewis and Tom Reynolds

As Nacsport is a timeline-based software, I guess there are similarities to your previous workflows, which would bring an initial level of comfort when starting to work with Nacsport. But are there things that you will be able to do in Nacsport that you couldn’t do before in SportsCode, and of those, what do you think will have the biggest impacts for the team?

That’s a good question and my answer will probably be different after six months of using the program day in day out. But I guess the types of things that get done the most are the organising of video clips. This will now be done using the presentation tool and the functionality within this environment of the program is massive. The ease of being able to draw on video especially now with KlipDraw will make a huge impact I think. It’s just so easy, like … too easy. Even Trevor Woodman will be able to get some drawings going haha. No, Trev is very good but in seriousness the coaches will be able to use the all tools with no problems I’m sure.
I also think the auto list / auto presentation features will help. We spend a lot of time creating files, searching for things and building packages to share and watch. That time is going to be reduced significantly because we’ll be able to send clips automatically to presentations without spending time searching or waiting for packages to be built. This time will let us be far more productive immediately post game and speed up a lot of processes. The other benefit is that Nacsport viewer allows users to manipulate clips and add notes, which means the players will be able to do more in terms of preparing content that they deliver in meetings, reviewing their own performances and analysing training without relying on Tom or I to put too much together for them. Who knows with all this time saved it might even mean I get to go home early some days! Ask me the same question in six months, as there will be lots that makes an impact so It will be great to answer with the experience in the locker.

HP Omen Laptops used by Gloucester RugbyGloucester Rugby's Nacsport PC Laptops

Obviously one of the big considerations for you moving over to Nacsport was moving from the Mac platform to Windows. We’ve found that a lot of people have been apprehensive and sometimes worried about this move, which can be surprising to us, but how have your experiences been so far?

I’m the first to admit that was a hugely daunting aspect having used a Mac for work and as my own personal machine. Thinking about it now and having sat on Windows 10 for a period of time, it’s embarrassing to think that the operating system the program runs on could have been a reason for Nacsport not to be considered. It is actually refreshing to work on something different and is no more complicated than Mac OSx which is simple. It’s different yes, not that different but it’s just as easy to use and after a month of working on it day in day out, it will be second nature … it’s just going to take a bit of getting used to shortcuts and keystrokes so that under the pressure of meetings etc., you can navigate anything you’re working in quickly and easily before you start to get “one job” calls from the players when you’ve pressed the wrong button in the middle of a team meeting!

When you understand the reasons for Nacsport being built on Windows, it becomes even more apparent that it’s a smart environment to be working in because of its flexibility and customisation ability. Windows is not what it was when I used it before, so anyone using that as a reason not to look into this type of change needs to really think about what is important.

Using Nacsport live at Gloucester Rugby

We’ve personally worked together on different projects over the years, but a couple months back we bought over the Nacsport co-founder and Head Developer, Alberto Rodriguez, to observe your current workflows both at the training ground and at one of your matches in Gloucester. We all really enjoyed this opportunity to see the inner workings of the team and your video analysis processes, especially as it was Alberto’s first live Rugby game! But from your side, how have you found communicating with the Nacsport team and seeing the way that they work with you?

Alberto, the Gandalf of the programming world ha! It has been remarkable to be honest. The open mindedness to look at things we were trying to achieve and then find the easiest and most effective way to get it done is exceptional. He and the rest of his team have done a great job putting the program where it is, of course yourself and AnalysisPro have been huge parts of that too. We’ve worked together on a lot of stuff yeah, so I know that with AnalysisPro when you say you’re going to do something, it’s going to happen and it’s the same with Nacsport and Alberto, which as a customer making a significant change is totally refreshing.

What I was hugely impressed with and also respected hugely is that everything we looked at and discussed with Alberto when he visited and in our chats is his ability to just ask “why?”. He wants to know why we do things the way we do, which puts pressure on you to think “I need a good reason for this” and also keeps you thinking about what you are trying to achieve with whatever tools you’re working with and whether you are doing that the most effective way. As well as looking forward to working with the actual product, its hugely exciting for me to be working with AnalysisPro and Alberto and his team because he is going to challenge us and that in turn is going to make us better as a department, which for me is massively important.

James Macfarlane using the KlipDraw tools in Nacsport

In another one of our regular Nacsport updates that came out recently, we integrated the KlipDraw tools into the software. How have you found using this so far with Nacsport and what impression do you think that will have around the team?

So many features to use haha, yeah its brilliant. The players who I’ve shown want more of things like that and the coaches loved it too as I mentioned, but I think It’s going to have a great impact on delivery of messages. Being able to make things nice and clear and also make the content that we put on our online platform alive and easy for our players to understand what messages are being delivered will be fantastic, so it’s a super addition. One of the lads wants to dress up as Gary Neville and do his own Monday night football bit … he’s a Prop so probably has two left feet haha, but it’s been received extremely well so far and we haven’t even shown anything to the squad as a whole yet.

Gloucester Rugby players already getting hands on with Nacsport

When you started exploring what is possible in Nacsport and whether it could match up to your existing SportsCode workflows, you were keen on talking to some of our existing Nacsport users from different sports. I put you in touch with Kieron Purtill and Ste Mills from Super League side Leigh Centurions, as they have been using Nacsport for a few years with Huddersfield Giants and now Leigh. Do you think that there are good video analysis processes which can be learned from other sports and users and how open do you find people are to sharing their workflows?

100%. It was great to meet those guys and see how they work to try and get a flavour of how Nacsport fits into their day to day operations, but also how highly they spoke of the system. They hadn’t really seen SportsCode so they were interested to see what we do and what they do was developed organically in Nacsport which was great to see. It’s something I am extremely conscious of, I don’t want to do something just because I’ve always done it in a particular way, that just doesn’t make sense to me. So visiting the guys was very valuable to understand how they look at things when Nacsport was put in front of them. It was also great to hear other coaches say how easy they found the system to use, which gave me great confidence that the coaches at Gloucester would have no problems.

I actually think sharing is something that doesn’t happen often enough, likely due to busy seasons and schedules, but meeting different coaches and analysts to share ideas and talk all things analysis is only going to make everyone better and improve the value of the work they do within their organisations and what they can provide. It’s not about copying what people do at all, it’s about a community of practice where people are happy to share ideas in the hope they snowball and evolve into something different, hopefully we can get some stuff going in the future. Hopefully Ste and Kieron are going to be able to visit us before the end of the season which will be good and in the future, we can get a user’s conference going which would be great, in Gran Canaria of course (wink wink nudge nudge).

Darren Lewis with his Nacsport machine

Hopefully you’ve seen from working with ourselves and Nacsport so far that we always try to make our user’s lives easier, by taking on board feedback and requests from all different sports and levels of competition. If there was one thing you could think of now that would make your analysis life easier, apart from a pre-paid Starbucks card, what would that be?

Most definitely, as I mentioned before, it’s so refreshing to have conversations where you know something good will come out of it. Chances are that the ideas that begin with initial seeds of thought often blossom into things you wouldn’t think possible or wouldn’t even have thought of to begin with, or Alberto has already taken steps to develop. That’s all to do with the operating system that Nacsport is built on, the wizardry and un blinkered vision of Alberto and his team who aren’t satisfied unless the program isn’t doing smart, simple and effective things. The fact that working together on this project has been so easy, so productive and ever evolving has been great to experience as an end user, it’s such a positive for me.

It’s a really exciting time for us now and I know Tom and James feel the same way, which is great for me to have their support as the department really doesn’t function the way it does without all three of us and their hard work. The support from David Humphreys (Director of Rugby) to allow me to make the decision to transition the club to Nacsport is hugely appreciated. But I’d really like to extend a huge thank you to yourself and AnalysisPro and Alberto and the Nacsport team for everything you have done so far for us. It’s a pleasure to be working with you guys and it is unbelievably stimulating to be working with such a passionate group of people, I feel like this is just the beginning and have no idea where things will be in the next six to twelve months but am excited about the ride!

Apart from a pre-paid coffee card … uh … two or three more hours in the day would be great!

We would really like to thank Darren for his detailed insight to the video analysis processes at Gloucester Rugby and sharing how making the move to Nacsport is going to impact the club. We are really looking forward to seeing you guys make the most out of the possibilities in Nacsport!

AP Capture V2 at Liverpool FC

In May 2015, we installed 2 of our fixed AP Capture IP Cameras at Liverpool FC's Melwood Training Ground. These cameras have continued to provide Liverpool FC with high quality footage of their training sessions and we are really pleased that Liverpool FC have now upgraded to AP Capture V2. The upgrade to V2 means that from one laptop, both IP Cameras can be captured and controlled. This results in two high quality MP4 files being created for each camera and the option to have a 3rd file created which would be a side by side video of both cameras.

When the cameras were initially installed, we provided custom brackets to attach the cameras onto existing structures. Since that time, Liverpool have taken on our advice about using a dedicated Trolley Head Pole for attaching the camera on. Along with the obvious height advantage of these Trolley Head Poles we recommend (can be 9,12 or 15m high), a big benefit comes with the ease of access to the camera.

AP Capture Camera on Trolley Head Pole at Melwood

AP Capture on Trolley Head Pole and Custom Bracket at Melwood

A drill system at the bottom of the pole means that the swan neck bracket and IP Camera can be easily lowered to ground level so that easy cleaning of the lens can take place. The custom rain and sun shield covers that we provide help to further protect the cameras against the elements, but this ease of access means that inevitable cleaning from time to time can be carried out without the need of additional equipment to get up to the cameras.

Harrison Kingston and Mark Leyland using AP Capture at Liverpool FC

We recently caught up with Harrison Kingston and Mark Leyland at Melwood to update their systems to the new AP Capture interface and capability of V2. We were very happy with the feedback from both Harrison and Mark about how the footage is regularly used and how easy they still find it to control the cameras:

We are very pleased to have two AP Capture machines controlling and capturing our training ground IP Cameras, provided by AnalysisPro. Controlling the cameras is smooth and easy, with the footage created being of great quality for our video analysis workflows. Being able to use both cameras at the same time with the new AP Capture V2 will also enhance our video collection processes.

We're glad we upgraded to the Trolley Head Pole to attach one of our cameras to and look forward to continuing to use AP Capture solutions and working with AnalysisPro into the future."

We would like to say thanks to Harrison and to all at Liverpool FC for their continued trust and use of our AP Capture solutions.

Premiership Champions Exeter Chiefs continue to grow with Nacsport

$

We are really pleased to once again be counting on Exeter Chiefs as users of our video analysis solutions. We have worked with the Chiefs and their Academy setup since 2013 and last year we brought you a similar story. At that time last year, Exeter had narrowly lost out in the Premiership Final, but that wasn’t the case this year. The Chiefs beat Wasps in a tense final where they got into extra time with 90 seconds left of normal time, and finally won with a kick just before the end of extra time to win 23-20 and be crowned Premiership Champions for the first time in the club’s history.

The Academy setup make great use of several Nacsport licences which have again been renewed to ensure that the Academy and College teams can benefit from the latest features and workflows possible in the ever evolving Nacsport software. They have also got some KlipDraw licences to integrate with the software to add professional drawings over their videos for more enhanced feedback and presentations. You can see more about the KlipDraw integration into Nacsport by clicking this link.

As the analysis of video content is carried out in Nacsport, the Chiefs wanted a way to easily share this amongst their players and interact with them. For that reason, they will continue to use the MyTPE platform to manage the College teams and Academy players, easily sharing videos for review and commenting along with gathering data and feedback from players about their wellbeing and playing times for example with the Questionnaire tools available.

We are delighted to continue working with the Chiefs and Josh is looking forward to delivering another training day to the club next week. Gareth Elliott has again provided an overview of the ongoing relationship between ourselves and the Chiefs which you can see below. We would like to thank Gareth and the club for their continued support and wish everyone in the club the best of luck for the upcoming season.

Moving forward with Nacsport after several years working with the software as an academy, we will have more coaches and players using the system and providing more detail for the analysis we will be delivering.

Our college sides at Truro and Exeter are now using the software to code their games and young athletes are gaining an understanding of using the software to tag some of their own actions, which is a brilliant way for them to look at their game in detail and at the same time picking up IT and analysis skills. Furthermore, we are really excited to start taking advantage of the new KlipDraw system, which creates really helpful and professional visual aids for players to learn from.

In terms of advances in the way we use TPE, we are really pushing forward with our use of simple functions such as the calendar, which is helping the academy as a whole keep up-to-date with what’s happening at different locations. We are also further developing our questionnaire system to keep track of the stress and demand put on young athletes, in line with our long-term athlete development.

Having a system where we can interact with academy players away from the club is so important to get out information to players about fixtures and training, as well as feedback on their matches, educational videos and documents for both on-field and off-field elements of being a young rugby player. It is brilliant to do this with a professional platform, rather than using social media or other forms of communication.

Today, we would like to welcome another Premiership Rugby team into our growing number of users. Our AP Capture solutions continue to evolve and become a popular choice for clubs, schools and universities as a way of capturing high quality footage from our high-end IP Cameras. Our AP Capture software and cameras can either be installed in a fixed environment or utilised through our mobile tripod solution.

One of the latest teams to take on our mobile tripod solution is Harlequins FC. After showing our mobile tripod solution to the team and lead analyst Kevin Gill at the start of the year, Kevin remarked on how impressed they were with the setup and the ease of use of the system. It was great to hear him note that a lot of work had clearly been put in from us to provide a solution that was easy to use and effective.

Today we are delighted to welcome another team into our community and share the story of how they have made the switch from SportsCode to Nacsport. Ealing Trailfinders play in the Greene King IPA Championship along with some of our other Nacsport users like Bedford, London Scottish and one more we will introduce another time!

In this post, you will read testimonials from Ben Ward (Director of Rugby) and Joe Burley (Head of Performance Analysis) about what the switch has now enabled them to do with their combination of Nacsport licences and the KlipDraw Animate integration.

For examples of other Rugby teams who have switched from SportsCode to Nacsport, take a look at these previous posts:

Gloucester Rugby - http://www.analysispro.com/blog/2017/05/08/gloucester-rugby-move-from-sportscode-to-nacsport

London Scottish - http://www.analysispro.com/blog/2017/04/25/london-scottish-fc-s-end-of-season-nacsport-testimonial

Ealing are using a combination of Nacsport licences that enable their analyst and coaching staff to review every match and training session in detail with the Nacsport Elite and 4 Nacsport Pro Plus licences they have. Each of these licences also have the KlipDraw Animate tool enabled so they can create powerful visual feedback tools for presenting back to the team. Enabling the players to review this content is made easy through the use of 6 Nacsport Viewer licences, giving the players access to review multiple angles, timelines, matrix, dashboards and presentations, along with creating their own presentations too.

Ben and Joe have kindly provided us with more information about how they use Nacsport and what the switch has meant for them, along with pictures of Nacsport in use throughout the team!

Ben Ward– Director of Rugby

This year we have had a change in our Head of Performance Analysis and this has bought about a change in software, moving from SportsCode to Nacsport. When Joe first introduced Alex and I to the software, we were hugely impressed with the different features and possibilities Nacsport could provide.

Nacsport has been incredibly easy to learn how to use and it is now fully integrated in our review and feedback processes. The presentation feature has really added to our environment as being able to add KipDraw drawings both before and during presentations has made it easier to highlight the learning point we are trying to emphasise. It also makes it easier for the players to understand, compared to the traditional laser pen.

The dashboard feature will change how we review games both as a team and individuals. Being able to interact with both stats and video at the same time will provide us with an excellent feedback tool.

There have been some small teething issues, as there will always be when you switch software and processes, but the support that Josh and AnalysisPro have provided has been excellent. Whether it is a phone call, email or someone remotely working on the machine; the issues have been ironed out extremely quickly. Their service has been excellent.

We are looking forward to working with Nacsport and AnalysisPro throughout this season and have no doubt it will add so much to our environment.

Joe Burley– Head of Performance Analysis

At Ealing Trailfinders we use video analysis as a key tool in our environment. Making the switch from SportsCode to Nacsport was an extremely easy decision having already used the software in previous roles, again switching from SportsCode.

Having inherited a fairly young analysis environment in terms of processes and workflows, I was able to review how the department worked and decided to make the switch to Nacsport for a number of reasons; mainly due to knowing what Nacsport was capable of adding to the programme but also due to the cost benefit of having so much more for less money.

The variety of tools that Nacsport offers enables the analysis and coaching staff to build detailed, in-depth reviews of footage to facilitate player learning and development. The use of the KlipDraw drawing tools enables coaches to highlight and demonstrate exactly what they are presenting. The players are also utilising the presentation tools very well and are leading their own analysis sessions, both in small breakout groups and in team meetings.

Ealing players leading their own analysis sessions with NacsportEaling players reviewing footage at training

On the training pitch, the players and coaches are live reviewing the session as it happens thanks to the streaming features available. Skills coaches can review with the players in between drills to provide instant on the spot feedback. Our matchday setup will offer the coaches a live review system using the interactive dashboard to view key match stats and footage relating to those stats. Alongside this they will be able to favourite key clips to review with players during half time.

Supporting Nacsport away from our environment we have chosen to utilise MyTPA to allow players to review footage in their own time. This will play a pivotal part in our review system, providing players an easy to use online platform to review all aspects of both team and individual performances, allowing them to come prepared to review meetings ready to discuss, review and give their feedback.

Coaches live review workflows for training and matchesCoaches live reviewing footage and analysis with Nacsport

Every player, both senior and academy, will use analysis in a different way as people learn in different ways. Being able to provide multiple resources to maximise learning is crucial to our environment; in this respect Nacsport is the ideal solution.

The support from Josh and the AnalysisPro team has been outstanding. They have been there from the very start, helping myself and the coaches with any issues or questions that we have had. The frequent updates are fantastic, the software is constantly evolving with new features being added all the time.  I cannot recommend Nacsport enough, it has completely transformed our environment here.

We would like to thank Ben and Joe for their in-depth testimonials and sharing of pictures, along with wishing everyone at Ealing the best of luck for the new season!

Rotherham Titans switch to Nacsport #SmartMove

After a very busy summer period, it's about time that we shared some blog posts to welcome new users into our community! Today, I am pleased to say that we are once again working with Matt Harland in his new position as Head of Performance Analysis at Rotherham Titans. We have worked with Matt whilst he was at Moseley Rugby and are delighted that Matt wanted to use our solutions once again when moving to Championship Rugby club Rotherham Titans. Matt has shared some pictures and information detailing how Nacsport is used by the Titans and the benefits it has for the coaching staff and players. He has also kindly allowed us to show his match review template and Dashboard, so take a look at the video below to see an overview of this. The video also includes some tips for Nacsport users to get the most out of their Dashboards and templates, especially with using the Panel Flows feature.

I shall hand over to Matt now to reveal why the Titans made the #SmartMove from SportsCode to Nacsport.

When Andy Key (Rotherham Titans Head Coach) first approached me about the Performance Analysis position at Rotherham, our initial conversation was about the software and developing the Analysis department at the club.  We use video analysis as a major tool in both our training and match reviews. Having worked with the software and AnalysisPro in the past, I was very keen to bring in Nacsport and make the switch from SportsCode. We found our previous analysis software limiting, and as a coaching department we weren't able to provide the players with the information they wanted and needed.

Similar to most clubs in the Championship, money effects how the club is run and after my initial conversation with Josh, it was clear we would be able to get much more from the software for much cheaper.

Rotherham Titans move from SportsCode to Nacsport

The club recently purchased 1 x Elite, 2 x Scout Plus Unlimited (each of these 3 also with KlipDraw Animate) and 3 x Nacsport Viewer licences, which as mentioned has allowed us to do a lot more for less money.  The 3 Viewer licences allow us to develop our own database on opponents and players can review their own performances in more detail. The Viewer licences are on computers the lads can access at any time during the week, so they can prepare effectively for the upcoming games. The club feels it is important for the players to have a major role in the performance analysis process, so the Nacsport presentation tool allows them to lead their own analysis sessions and provide feedback to the coaching staff.

Titans players getting hands on with Nacsport ViewerTitans coaches Nic Rouse and Andy Key reviewing on Nacsport

Along with myself, both Andy Key (Head Coach) and Nic Rouse (Forwards Coach) are new to the club and both coaches are new to Nacsport, however the software has allowed them to effectively review both training and games.

Both coaches have a Scout Plus Unlimited licence. The presentation tool has been a feature they have both liked, as it allows them to put together any points from previous games looking at attack, defence and set piece to feedback to the players in the weekly reviews.  We now have access to more angles on a match day as we get a tight and wide angle from the RFU and the software we have allows us to sync theses angles together for both players and coaches to review.

The final Nacsport licence we have is the Elite licence, which I use to code live during the game. This licence allows us to provide information to coaches during the match through the dashboard feature and post-match.  We are also able to stream information to the dugout for the players to see during the game so they can review live, with this workflow also allowing the Doctor and Physios to review any injuries and concussions.

Rotherham Titans players reviewing performances with Nacsport Viewer

Performance Analysis for a young squad like ourselves is key to help enable player learning and development. The number of tools that Nacsport offers is key to this growth in the players.  One of the new features we have access to is the KlipDraw integration. This is an exciting feature for the coaches and myself to have access to, as it allows us to be much more precise in highlighting key areas.

One of the most important aspects for me when switching to Nacsport is the support I have received both now and in the past from both Jon Moore and Josh Bryan.  They have been there from start to finish, no question has been too difficult to answer and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and their products in the future.

Thanks to Matt for such a great overview of the video analysis processes used at Titans and for his praise about ourselves and Nacsport. As mentioned above, here is a video walkthrough giving you further insight to the template and Dashboard created by Matt and how it all works. Well worth a watch!!

Today, I would like to let you know about one of our latest fixed IP Camera installations with the AP Capture solution. The installation was for British Curling at their National Curling Academy, based at the Stirling Sports Village. We thought that the best way to show you this installation was with a video, so you can watch that below to see how AP Capture is used to access the 16 different IP Cameras that are installed at different positions around the 4 curling sheets.

8 overhead 4K IP Cameras with full PTZ (pan, tilt and zoom) movement are operational, along with 8 fixed position 1080p IP Cameras that are located at a lower level, to show side-on views of the able bodied and wheelchair curlers in action. Along with being able to capture and control the cameras into the AP Capture laptops, all the cameras are constantly recording onto network drives so that they can be accessed live and post event, ensuring that every moment is available for recall from any camera.

The installation was carried out by Gerard Norman of Future CCTV, who we have worked with on many AP Capture installations. Gerard received fantastic praise from all at British Curling for his excellent workmanship, communication and adaptability. We strongly recommend Gerard's services for all clients looking at AP Capture IP Camera installations.

If you are interested in fixed IP Camera installations, then please don't hesitate to get in touch. Our AP Capture solutions provide high quality IP Cameras and a software developed from the ground up, which gives smooth and simultaneous PTZ movement controls of up to 2 cameras at the same time, along with capturing both of these into high quality MP4 files. You can synchronise sound at the same time, with our POE sound devices being a latest addition for outdoor solutions, and you can now even live stream your footage to YouTube or Facebook whilst controlling and capturing your cameras inside AP Capture!

We have been really pleased to see how many different schools, colleges and universities have joined the Nacsport community in the UK over the past few years. Today, I would like to take the chance to welcome some more of these to the community, especially as they are becoming the breeding ground for the analysts of tomorrow!

To help educational environments, we like to provide a starting 20% educational discount for Nacsport licences to schools, colleges and universities in the UK and Ireland, along with providing the popular Nacsport Student Rental licence. This rental licence gives students their own Nacsport Scout Plus licence for a year, for just £50, so they can continue their use of Nacsport in their own time and apply video analysis processes out in the field.

The real benefit for these students is that they are learning video analysis processes on a software which is a viable option for any club they may go to work at, due to the affordable cost of Nacsport and features available in the very starting version, Nacsport Basic.

For now, we would like to say a warm welcome and thanks to the following groups who have chosen to use Nacsport for their video analysis processes. It’s a great example of the different settings where Nacsport can be used as these places will be using Nacsport across a variety of sports, for enhancing understanding, performance and video analysis workflows!

Bishops Challoner School– Nacsport Basic will be used here by Martin Smith.

Culford School – Andy Northcote is making use of Nacsport Pro Plus to capture and live review their Cricket sessions.

Reeds School – Nacsport Scout Plus and Tag&go will be used here, predominantly with the Hockey team through Brett Garrard and James Norman.

City of Liverpool College – As the Programme Leader for Higher Education in Sport, Chris Dowling selected 4 Nacsport Basic Plus licences.

Northern Regional College– Damian McCarry makes use of a Nacsport Pro Plus licence for the Sport and Exercise Science course at the College.

Pangbourne College– Daniel Paynter has a Nacsport Basic licence for use with the Hockey teams.

Stewarts Melville College – The college have 11 Nacsport Basic licences that will be used across their PE Department.

Fettes College– We have worked with Fettes College for a number of years, with James Pillinger choosing our fixed AP Capture solution as you can see here. We’re very pleased that James has expanded the video analysis processes at the college, by since upgrading their fixed camera to a new 4K camera, along with getting 2 Nacsport Tag&go licences, a Nacsport Pro Plus licence with KlipDraw Animate integration and our AP Wireless solution. This means that live captures of the IP Camera can be analysed in Nacsport, with the registered actions and live Dashboard being streamed wirelessly around the Hockey pitch for others to review during a game! You can see an example of the Scotland Women’s Hockey team making the most of that below. As always, thanks for your continued support James!

Edinburgh Napier University– Chris Edmans previously chose 3 Nacsport Basic Plus licences for students at the University, with new students also making the most of the Nacsport Student Rental licences on offer recently.

Northumbria University– Alex Delves is growing the video analysis processes in place at the University, with 2 new Scout Plus licences and Student Rental licences too, the students of Northumbria can apply their workflows easily. The Nacsport licences are also working alongside existing SportsCode licences that were at the University.

Robert Gordon University– Donnie MacDonald is the Subject Lead for Sport and Exercise Science at RGU, a University who recently started and MSc in Applied Sports Performance Analysis. To enhance the student experience, we are very pleased that Donnie chose Nacsport and that RGU are now making great use of the powerful workflows that can be achieved with 2 Nacsport Elite, 2 Nacsport Pro Plus and 2 Nacsport Tag&go licences.  Student at RGU are also utilising the Student Rental Licence offer to further improve their working practices.

Southampton Solent University– We started our relationship with Solent earlier this year, after they chose the AP Capture Mobile Tripod solution. Since that time, we are delighted that the Uni has continued their journey with us by getting an additional 2 Mobile Tripods and a fixed camera for use with their football program at Test Park. With all this new footage, they needed a way for their students to easily analyse both live and post event. This is all possible with their new 13 Scout Plus licences and 3 Pro Plus licences for in-depth live workflows. We would really like to thank James Wright and Louis Langdown for their continued trust and expanded use of our synergetic tool box!

University of Essex– Chris McManus gave us the great pleasure of having a fresh canvas and wish list to work on with him. An installation of fixed IP Cameras as part of the AP Capture solution is well underway for the new sports hall being created for use with multiple sports, and Chris also wanted to create a learning environment for students and teams to benefit from using video analysis workflows together. Thanks to the educational discounts available as mentioned at the start of this post, Essex University are another example of a place that can really kit out a learning environment with the number of tools they require to achieve their goals. We’re really excited for the students to get stuck into their 15 Scout Plus and 2 Pro Plus licences, particularly because they will all have the use of KlipDraw Animate inside Nacsport. We’re sure that there is going to be some great content created across the variety of sports that will benefit from video analysis!

We would like to say thanks once again to all of our new users and really look forward to seeing how they continue to expand their video analysis processes within their team’s performances and student’s learning journeys. Thanks everyone!

Performance Analysis at Northumbria University

I am very pleased to be starting the first blog post of 2018 with a fantastic case study from Alex Delves, Head of Performance Analysis at Northumbria University. In our previous blog, you will have read about the Growth of Nacsport in Schools, Colleges and Universities. Northumbria University was introduced within that blog, and here you can learn more about the University, how they use Performance Analysis and how Nacsport, Tag&go and KlipDraw are used within that process.

I shall leave you with the case study and pictures kindly provided by Alex which I'm sure you will enjoy! If there are any questions about the processes and workflows discussed here, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us!

Northumbria University is currently ranked at number 8 in the country within the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) rankings and has teams competing at an Elite level nationally in leagues such as the Vitality Netball Super League, EBAC Northern Football League, BUCS Super Rugby and Men’s and Women’s British Basketball League.

Performance Analysis is one of the key areas within the wider support services offered to students and athletes at Northumbria University. This summer saw us transition away from our previous Dartfish software package to Nacsport. This is a move which has played a key role in improving our analysis processes on and off the pitch and has further established Performance Analysis as an ingrained part of all our sports.

Northumbria University Nacsport Licences

Northumbria University Nacsport Template for Football Analysis

An average week will see us film and analyse around 18 games across a diverse range of sports from Football, Netball and Rugby Union to Lacrosse, Water Polo and American Football. Northumbria University's Student Development Programme plays an integral part in allowing us to film and analyse such a high volume of games. Northumbria Sport are able to recruit, train and deploy student volunteers who have aspirations to work within elite sport, and this year the Northumbria Sport Student Development Programme received recognition as the best student sport volunteer programme in the country. We currently have 6 interns and 10 volunteers working alongside myself to form the Performance Analysis department. Each intern is assigned to a primary sport that they will work with throughout the season, alongside a volunteer that they will mentor. This gives the students experience of building rapport with players and coaches and helps them to see how Analysis is utilised within a high-performance environment.

One of the key benefits of our move to Nacsport is the availability of yearly Nacsport Student Rental licences. This allows us to have a flexible approach to our service and allows students to fit their analysis in around their academic commitments. For instance, many interns and volunteers can now tag games on the bus back from away games, or from the comfort of their own homes rather than having to come to the labs at the university. Having this flexibility allows us to turn around a high volume of games quickly and keeps our feedback processes efficient for coaches and athletes.

Intern Antony Blackburn using Nacsport Tag&go for live video analysis with the Northumbria University football team

Once games have been filmed and tagged they are hosted on our online platform, which allows coaches and players access to the video and information remotely. Being part of a university, it is important that we look to replicate the learning environment that students have engaged with academically into a sporting context and integrate this into their weekly training programmes. Having access to this platform allows us to empower both coaches and athletes to take ownership of their own learning. This allows them to be involved in the analysis process by contributing their own clips ready for their feedback sessions.

Head Coach Claire Dobison using Nacsport to present to the Northumbria University Women's Hockey team

Another element of the Nacsport software package that we utilise across all our sports is the ability to create custom statistical dashboards. Coaches can outline what information they would like to see displayed, and this can easily be built into the Tagging Template and Dashboard. Using this feature alongside the integrated KlipDraw tool allows us to provide context to support our feedback sessions, with engaging visual content to enhance our coaching processes.

Nacpsort Dashboard used for statistical data review at Northumbria University

KlipDraw Animate telestration tools used inside Nacsport video analysis software for enhancing coaching points

Our coaches really find the analysis that we do useful and as a visual learner myself, I know that tools like this are really important and effective at helping us get our key coaching points across. Sometimes you can coach and coach on the pitch, but it’s not until players see it clearly up on the screen that the learning really happens. Our aim as a department is to help create and contribute to a learning environment that not only gives all our athletes the opportunity to develop, but also all our aspiring volunteers and interns.

The support that we have received from AnalysisPro and particularly Josh Bryan has been essential during our transition to Nacsport. It is an incredibly robust and flexible tool that is constantly being updated and improved and can easily be integrated into any high-performance sports environment and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I'm sure you will agree that this provides a fantastic insight to the Performance Analysis workflows used at Northumbria University! Once again, I would like to say thanks to Alex for providing such detailed information and pictures of their processes in action.

Welcome to our latest colleague!

Today, I am delighted to share this news story welcoming the newest member of the AnalysisPro team. Last year, we introduced you to Daniel Moore, who has become a vital member of the team, efficiently providing top class support to all of our users for nearly a year already! We're really pleased to continue growing as a company, ensuring that all of our users and potential clients can still benefit from high levels of support and communication along the way. These are two areas we pride ourselves on around the video analysis solutions that we provide, so we hope you agree that this is still the case.

So, who is the newest member of the team?

Bradley Grice - Sales Coordinator at AnalysisPro

Bradley Grice - Sales Coordinator

Bradley graduated from Southampton Solent University with a 2:1 in Criminology, where he completed his dissertation in Analysis of Human Behaviour. His interest in working with people started in Hospitality before evolving into the Tourism industry, where he worked in Menorca and Lanzarote as a resort rep (he thoroughly enjoyed his time on the Spanish islands in the sun!).

Bradley eventually decided to return home to the UK where he embarked on a very successful career in the property market, working in central London to learn his trade in Property Sales, Management and Lettings. He was a regular at the top of the sales leaderboard and even won a trip to Berlin based on his performance. Bradley then took on a new challenge helping a startup company in London find its feet; he defined various job roles and played a major part in establishing processes and marketing strategies. Bradley then moved back to his childhood city of Southampton and was promoted to Senior Negotiator, where he worked with landlords and developers to successfully manage a very large property portfolio.

After his successes in property, he moved to Wales to work in recruitment, helping large companies headhunt new staff. He now lives in Swansea with his partner, newborn baby girl and his French bulldog Bruce, and has moved into his current role as Sales Coordinator for AnalysisPro!

Bradley has a passion for sport, being a keen 5-a-side footballer and a supporter of Southampton Football Club, but as he is getting older he is enjoying fantasy football just as much!

Although very passionate about sport, Bradley is also very excited about opening new markets for AnalysisPro with a strong curiosity in the expansion of non-sporting analysis. He wants to apply a long history of sales skills to knock on new doors, open new markets and increase the number of users of the fantastic analysis solutions that we can provide!

Welcome to the team Bradley, great to have you on board!

Celebrating Female Performance Analysts

Thursday 8th March is International Women’s Day and we would like to share insights provided by some of the female analysts that we work with here at AnalysisPro. Alongside this recent blog celebrating female analysts from across the globe who are using Nacsport, we wanted to bring you further details from the three UK and Ireland analysts who kindly shared their experiences as part of that blog!

Here you will learn about three analysts based in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. We love to provide insights into our user’s processes and it wouldn’t be possible without them being kind enough to share this with you also. If you are open to letting this fantastic community know about your processes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

A big thanks to Gemma Davies, Gillian Wilson and Sarah Burke for providing these case studies. Gemma gives some great insight to the growing number of female analysts in the Industry and mentions some excellent analysts and academics who we have had the pleasure of also working with for a number of years.

Gemma Davies

Academic and Analyst

Cardiff Metropolitan University and Welsh Netball.

Gemma Davies - Lecturer in Performance Analysis

I’m fortunate enough not only to be working within the academic institution which introduced me to the phenomenon of Performance Analysis, but I am privileged to combine work as a university lecturer with a voluntary placement as an active Performance Analyst. Thanks to Cardiff Metropolitan University and Welsh Netball, I have the perfect opportunity to ‘Practice what I Teach’.

The industry of Performance Analysis is growing and we’ve (Cardiff Met) seen an increased uptake in females interested in studying our Undergraduate Sports Performance Analysis (SPA) pathway. Leaning on my own experiences in both capacities, I would fully encourage female students who are interested in sport to investigate this as an area of study, as it’s not only for male students as perhaps traditionally perceived.

There are some fantastic females working in the field, such as ex-Cardiff Met (UWIC) students Esther Wills, Head of Performance Analysis at the FAW and Julia Wells, Technical Lead at the English Institute of Sport, as well as in academia, such as my colleagues here, Dr Gemma Robinson and Lucy Holmes, who leads our MSc in Professional Practice.

Applied Analyst:

The Welsh Netball placement provides me with an opportunity to embrace the high-performance platform, working with exceptional coaches, talented players and supporting both through the medium of analysis with statistics and video. This year provides an extraordinary opportunity for the players of Welsh Netball with the Commonwealth Games set for Gold Coast, Australia in April. Having been involved with the Squad since 2016, I am excited at the prospect of supporting the team at a major games and providing the best possible analysis structure. Commonwealth Games 2018: an exciting prospect but a career highlight too!

Performance analysis is an evolving sport science structure, mostly due to its dependence on technology and many of my processes have evolved with Nacsport. The introduction of live dashboards linked to my template allows stats to be sent courtside; the use of iPad app Tag and Go gives training sessions more flexibility with registers linked directly to the base laptop. Meaning I can code courtside, interact with coaches/players and not be isolated and operate from the balcony.

Nacsport live analysis and capture of Welsh NetballWelsh Netball players reviewing Nacsport analysis live on tablets courtside in the South Africa 2016 tour

Supporting weekend camps, evening training sessions, attending Test matches and International competitions is the norm for the role. Live match coding combined with filming, is where I am most comfortable. A live coding template developed to meet the needs of the team united with a live video stream. With a strong desire for the players to succeed, I often find my voice on video playback – screaming at the success of an interception or rebound opportunity! However, collecting data live as players perform, allows my post-match process to be even more efficient.

Welsh Netball Test Series v New Zealand 2017 at Ice Arena, CardiffWelsh Netball International Test Series v Samoa 2017

Following matches, the coaches can review the footage and registers gathered. Playlists and presentations are developed to provide players with feedback at post-match reviews and 1:1 sessions.  Within international competitions, these sessions are coupled with opposition analysis. Analysing and preparing presentations on our next opponent to present to the team.

As an academic, it is important to stay on top of processes, connect with industry and migrate with developments.  As an analyst, I have the opportunity to do this, apply what I teach and engage within a high-performance environment.

For now, I look forward to the opportunity of Gold Coast 2018 with Team Wales and on my return sharing Performance analysis experiences with Cardiff Met colleagues and students.

Gillian Wilson

Performance Analyst

Scotland Women – Scottish Rugby

Gillian Wilson - Scotland Women Performance AnalystHi, my name is Gillian Wilson and I am the performance analyst of Scotland Women, within Scottish Rugby. This season I have been using the Nacsport Elite software, which allows us to carry out everything we require for the analysis of ourselves and opposition.

The ability to create activation links when designing templates was very helpful & I have found that using the panel flows has made registering actions much more efficient.

For training, I capture live so that the session is available for coaches straight after. I like the option in Elite to edit and review registers live without having to leave the capture. Post training, I use the Presentation window to highlight or export any registers for further review.

In our game day set up, we use the live review workflows such as Play by Play. The review station for the coaches allows them to review the footage as they wish, and the Play by Play option is really useful for looking at more specific parts of the live game. These are both really easy for coaches to use and the option for coaches to create playlists during the game is great.

The Nacsport and AnalysisPro team are incredibly helpful and always on hand with any questions I have.

Sarah Burke

Performance Analyst and Performance Analysis Student

Meath GAA and IT Carlow

Sarah Burke - Performance Analyst for Meath GAA and IT Carlow Student

My name is Sarah Burke and I am a Sports Performance Analyst from Ireland based in Kilkenny. I am in my final few months of completing my MSc in Sports Performance Analysis.

Whilst completing my Masters, I have been working with hurling teams mainly, providing live and post-match analysis. I have been extremely fortunate in that most of the time I do not need to worry about the camera or filming of games. This is done for me, which helps with my workflow and ensures I am ready to begin preparing for the game ahead- live analysis, using the category template, reviewing dashboards etc.

This is my second year using the Nacsport Scout Plus and Nacsport Tag and Go app , which is also a bonus during live analysis. One thing I’ve realised in my time working in hurling as an analyst is that no time can be wasted, each time you find yourself with a moment to spare, it is a chance to improve or plan for the upcoming games or challenges.

Being able to work on the go is vital and planning an efficient workflow is key. Nacsport Scout Plus enables me to do all those things which in turn allows me to give a clear break down of the game after the match for management staff. The timeline is crucial in this, as I can bring up certain periods of the game during meetings or formulate them into presentation files to show players.

Paddy Butler Drawing Example in NacsportBoro turnover example in Nacsport

It is important to be able to design a category template that outputs the information that the management need and being able to interpret data for the coaching staff is a crucial part of being an analyst, particularly for a female working in a male dominated environment. I feel this software allows me to do that. Nacsport has also played a major role in my studies and I am currently using it while I complete my dissertation in ‘Turnovers and Attacking play in elite hurling’.

I look forward to continued success with the Nacsport software.

We would like to thank Gemma, Gillian and Sarah for sharing their experiences of using Nacsport and giving us all an insight into the fantastic analysis that they provide in their different environments!
